Mission and Goals
The mission of the Round Rock ISD Fine Arts Department is to equip all students with the skills to develop and express their creativity through involvement in, and appreciation of Music, Theater, Art and/or Dance. Music students at Laurel Mountain Elementary will apply skills and concepts acquired through their music class across all subject areas.
The following goals reflect the importance of the music-making process, music literacy, and the ability to express and communicate in a creative mode.
These goals imply that students should be exposed to numerous and varied interrelated experiences that encourage them to value the musical experience, to develop creative and expressive habits of mind, and to understand and appreciate the role of a musician in historical and contemporary civilization; that they should be encouraged to explore, to discuss, and to create so that they gain confidence in their ability to solve complex problems; that they should read, write, and discuss various genres of music; and that they should work towards personal musical expressions representing their individuality.
The opportunity for ALL students to experience these components of music education and learning is at the heart of the vision of the Laurel Mountain Elementary music program.
